Term 1 Week 7 Learning Log:
Hi! Back to my post after Chinese New Year celebration. I will be posting everything on friday as monday we had our Chinese New Year holiday.
Friday: Mr Chua came in our class. As usual, we greeted him and had our lesson started. The first thing we did is take out student handbook as Mr Chua told us about our topic for upcoming common test.

3. Merchant of Venice - Character traits( Antonio, Bassanio, Portia & Shylock)

- Friendship( Antonio & Bassanio)

Next, we took out our last week homework. Halfway going through, Mr Chua then remember that he should not go through the answer because some people maybe never do the worksheet and they will copy the answer. He asked us to pass the paper forward and ask us some question like, what did Antonio scold Shylock... After that, Mr Chua gave us a article about "Buddhist, Taoist leaders accept pastor's apology". We took about 3 minutes to read the article. And we got a question from Mr Chua which is, "If someone insult my religion, should he be punished?" and this will be our homework. Time really flies. Left with only 5 minutes, so Mr Chua gave us back our small card and a envelope that we did last time to write down our friend's address that we want to send to.

Self Reflection: Yes. I think that if someone insult me, he should be punished. No matter what, is peoples' religious, which is also about gods. Different religious will have different type of gods. But, they are still gods, we must still respect them. They will not feel good if I insult their gods too. This is showing disrespect to gods. I don't mind they being disrespectful to me but not my gods. Even if we do not punished them their own gods will punished them too. Just like some elderly said, never ever use your finger to point at a moon except for your thumb. If not, you will get a cut behind your ear. Even if is a small punishment, we also must learnt our lessons.

Term 1 Week 6 Learning Log:
Monday: Posting for this monday only as no lesson on friday(CNY celebration). Mr Chua quite satisfied with our class as no one went out of the class. First thing, Mr Chua gave each of us a worksheet of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE. It have a passage and need to answer the question.
Portia: [accepting the document but not reading it yet]Shylock, you have been offered three times the money...
Shylock: My oath! My oath! I have vowed an oath to heaven! Shall my soul be guilty of perjury? No, not for Venice itself.
Portia: [Scanning the bond]Well, this bond is forfeit. By this, the Jew may lawfully claima pound of flesh, to be cut out by him nearest to the merchant's heart[To SHYLOCK]Be merciful. Take three times your money Tell me to tear up the bond.
Shylock: Only when it is paid according to the agreement. You seem to me a worthy judge. You know the law. Your interpretation was very sound. I demand in the name of the law, of which you are a well-deserving pillar, proceed to judgement. I swear upon my soul that no man has the power to persuade me otherwise. I'll have my bond!
1. Do you think Shylock is right to demand to murder Antonio? Explain yourself clearly.
2. Shylock has sworn both to heaven and his own soul to cut a pound of flesh from Antonio's body. Give one possible reason why he would do so.
3. Is Shylock the hero or villian of the story? Explain.
After that, Mr Chua gave another worksheet of an earlier scene when Shylock say when looking at Antonio. It will be our homework for this short holiday for Chinese New Year. There are passage and questions but due to the passage and questions are too long. I will not type it out. Sorry for the inconvenient.
My Opinion: I don't think that there are any villian or hero exist in the world. People who did bad things might not be a villian. They could have their own difficulties or maybe they hate someone and desperate to hurt that person when the person did or say something bad about them. Thus, we should mantain our peace between friends, relatives or family. So that, there will be no misunderstanding communication.
Some people thinks that once someone help them, save them. They will think that the person is a hero, good guy or benefactor. Just abit of help, they will think that they are a good guy or a hero. Hero is just a name.

Term 1 Week 5 Learning Log:
HI!! Back to post again. This week lit post, i am going to post for Monday(1/02/10) lesson as Friday(5/02/10) there is no school. Okay, I will start the post for Monday.
We were having our lesson at the big grass patch at the first floor as before Mr Chua came to our class for lesson, some of my classmates were standing outside the classroom to 'peep' if teacher is coming. Mr Chua was angry and wanted us to get under the hot sun as a punishment. First things first, Mr Chua told us about our school this year theme: FRIENDSHIP. He gives us 30 seconds to discuss what is friendship actually. "TIMES UP" He call out some names, Daryl, Amy, ErWeiSheng to share about how they think about friendship. After that, he told us about friendship between Antonio & Bassanio. A great friend like Antonio sacrified himself because of his best friend. Soon, we left the hot place and back to our cool classroom. Mr Chua gave us a small card to write and decorate something to send it to a friend for friendship day.

FRIENDSHIP to me is someone that can lend me his/her ear to hear me 'nag', share secrets, happy or sad memories, support you to do things, encourage you to try things out, will not betray you, I will not be shy or embarrass to tell them something, care for me. This type of friends to me are a someone I can lean on them.
